Hefazat followers attack Bhanga police station, 6 cops injured
Law enforcers have arrested two people from the scene over suspected involvement in the attack
A group of Hefazat-e-Islam leaders and activists attacked Bhanga police station in Faridpur today.
They gathered in the police station area from different mosques around the municipality shortly after the Johr prayer on Saturday. Then they started hurling stones at the police station and attacked its main entrance, the district's Additional Superintendent of Police Jamal Pasha told The Business Standard.
The incident has left six police personnel injured.
"After Hefazat followers launched the attack, police fired 40-45 rubber bullets to bring the situation under control. Two persons were detained from the scene over suspected involvement in the attack," he added.
Faridpur Superintendent of Police Md Alimuzzaman and other senior police officials have visited the scene.
Additional police personnel have been deployed in the area to prevent further untoward incident.
A case will be filed against those involved in the attack, police said.
Earlier on Friday, the Islamist group called a nationwide protest over Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Bangladesh and Friday's police action on their activists.
Earlier in the day, five Hefazat activists were killed and dozens injured when several hundreds of them clashed with cops and ruling party men in Chattogram and Brahmanbaria.
