A mobile court of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has fined Dr Sirajul Islam Medical College and Hospital in the capital Tk30 lakh for various inconsistencies in the management of medical services.

The mobile court also recovered expired reagents and a large number of surgical supplies from the hospital.

In association with a taskforce of the health ministry, the operation was carried out from 12pm to 4pm on Tuesday.

Umme Salma Tanzia, a joint secretary of the health services department and a member of the taskforce, told the media that the hospital does not maintain protocols and health issues regarding the Covid-19 treatment unit.

In addition, a microbiology lab and a coronavirus unit have been set up at the same place, which is absurd, she said.

Referring to the regular operations of the taskforce, the official said that the hospital is not providing quality services to patients.

Executive Magistrate Sarwoer Alam, who headed the drive, said that the recovered reagents from the hospital's lab and surgical supplies from four operation theatres got expired a few years ago.

"Just within eight to ten hours, the hospital is providing blood culture results. But it should take at least 48-72 hours for blood culture results to come," he added.

The RAB magistrate claimed that all the microbiology reports made in the institute so far are fake.
