Measles-rubella vaccination campaign begins March 18
The first phase of the campaign will take place from March 18-24
More than 34 million children between nine months to 10 years of age will receive the combined measles-rubella (MR) vaccine during an upcoming three-week campaign.
Health Minister Zahid Malik today said this at a press briefing at Bangladesh Secretariat.
The first phase of the campaign will take place from March 18-24 and the second phase will begin on March 28 and continue till April 11 across the country.
Infants born to mothers who contract rubella in the early stages of pregnancy are prone to be born with birth defects such as heart problems, hearing and vision impairment and mental retardation.
The vaccine will stop the transmission of rubella from mother to child.
It will also protect children from highly contagious measles, the health ministry officials said.
