A china returnee, along with four of her family members, has been placed under hospital-quarantine on suspicion of having coronavirus in Bandarban on Wednesday.
Her family members are residents of Sadar upazila.
Dr Aungsupru Marma, civil surgeon of Bandarban Sadar Hospital confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.
He said, "On Tuesday afternoon, the women came to Bangladesh from Macau of China. Being informed, the health department officials went there and placed all of her family members including her sister, younger brother and parents under quarantine in a hospital on suspicion of being infected with coronavirus."
As she is China returnee, she might be infected with the virus or might not. But for their safety, we have decided to keep them under quarantine, he added.
The civil surgeon also said that 20 beds have been prepared in the isolation unit at Sadar Hospital to fight coronavirus, adding that the number of beds will be further enhanced.
Daudul Islam, deputy commissioner of the district, said tourist spots in Bandarban have not been banned yet though tourist arrivals are being discouraged until the next directive.
