The government has appointed Dr Farid Hossain Miah as the new director (hospitals and clinics) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Former director Aminul Hasan has been made OSD amid controversy over various irregularities in the health department in dealing with Covid-19 pandemic.

The Health Ministry issued a gazette notification in this regard today.

Dr Farid Hossain was appointed as director of the DGHS. He also carried out duty as Madaripur civil surgeon and assistant director of Public Health Institute. He was working as programme manager of National Tuberculosis Control Programme of DGHS since 2019.

Besides, DGHS Director General Professor Dr Abul Kalam Azad submitted his resignation to the Ministry of Public Administration on July 21. He mentioned his deteriorating health as the reason behind his resignation.

The DGHS has been on the top of discussion across the country for past few weeks after fake Covid-19 testing scams of Regent Hospital and JKG Health Care came to light.
