HC cancels Pabna Municipality polls result, orders vote recount

The High Court has cancelled the result of the mayoral election to Pabna Municipality and ordered to recount the votes within a month.

The bench of Justice Md Mujibur Rahman Miyan and Justice Md Kamrul Hasan Hossain passed the order on Wednesday, responding to a writ petition filed by the ruling party candidate who was defeated in the election.

In the election, Sharif Uddin Pradhan, a rebel candidate of Awami League, was unofficially declared winner on 30 January.

Later, the ruling party candidate, Ali Mortuza Biswas Sony, filed a writ petition with the High Court, bringing allegations of different sorts of irregularities.

Hearing the petition on Wednesday, the HC bench took the allegations to its cognizance, cancelled the election result and ordered to recount the votes.
