HC asks why Tk 3cr should not be paid to Titash’s family
The court further directed the secretary to the public administration for appointing an additional secretary to conduct an investigation into the incident
The High Court (HC) asked the government to explain why it should not give Tk 3 crore as compensation to the family of Titash Ghosh.
The court further directed the secretary to the public administration for appointing an additional secretary to conduct an investigation into the incident, involving the death of Titas Ghosh, with a directive to submit a report on the findings within three weeks.
The HC bench, consisting of justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader, came up with the rule and the order after hearing a writ petition on Wednesday.
Earlier, on Tuesday, a writ petition was filed with the HC, seeking Tk 3 crore as compensation for the family of Titas Ghosh. Md Zahir Uddin, Chairman at Legal Support and People's Rights and a Supreme Court lawyer, filed the petition on Tuesday.
Titash died in an ambulance on a ferry on July 25 on his way to Dhaka from Narail for treatment at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital. The ferry was allegedly forced to wait on the arrival of joint secretary Abdus Sabur Mondal for three hours at Kathalbari Ferry Terminal in Munshiganj.
The writ petitioner sought the court’s stand against Abdus Sabur Mondal and Salam Hossain, the ferry manager, while seeking court’s involvement to ensure priority of free and easy movement of ambulance over other vehicles on roads and waterways.
