Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday phoned West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and enquired about the damages caused by Cyclone Amphan.

"The prime minister called the chief minister of West Bengal at about 11:10am on Friday and enquired about the damages caused in her state by the cyclone," said the prime minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim.

He said the prime minister expressed her sympathies over the loss of lives and property caused by the cyclone and hoped they would be able to overcome the losses very soon.

Mamata thanked Prime Minister Hasina for the call.

Cyclone Amphan made landfall on Wednesday evening and caused major damages along the coastlines of Bangladesh and West Bengal.
