Grameenphone Employees Union (GPEU) on Saturday formed human chains across the country demanding the immediate reinstatement of Mia Mohammad Shafikur Rahman Masud, general secretary of GPEU.
Leaders, workers and several labor organisations in different sectors, including the Pharmaceuticals Association, Uttara Bank Workers' Employees Union, Mobile Phone Customers Association and UNI Global Bangladesh Liaison Committee, showed their solidarity with the demonstration by attending it, says a press release issued by GPEU on 7 November.
"We are preparing to organise a grand rally in demand of reinstating Mia Masood and repealing Section 26 of the Labor Act," said Fazlul Haque, acting president of GPEU, in the statement.
According to a previous press release issued by GPEU, Mia Masood was sacked on 27 October under Section 26 of the Labour Act-2006 as he tried to stop the massive layoff by the telecommunications company.
GPEU members have been demonstrating demanding his reinstatement since then.
