Bangladesh Railway is set to purchase 150 metre-gauge carriages and 20 metre-gauge electric locomotive from South Korea, aiming to develop rail communications of the country.

Bangladesh Railway on Wednesday signed an agreement with a South Korea joint venture firm in presence of Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan.

Under the agreement South Korean firm Sung Shin RST and POSCO International will supply the carriages at Tk 658.81 cr, said an official release.

The carriages will be delivered within the next 18 to 30 months.   

After signing the deal, the minister requested the contractors to maintain the standard of the carriages following the agreement.
