A 14-year-old girl who sustained severe burn injuries in a fire at a residential building in Feni last week died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital on Thursday morning.
The deceased was identified as Hafsa Islam, a grade X student of a local school and daughter of Mahbubul Islam.
Hafsa breathed her last around 10 am on Thursday at the hospital ICU, said Abul Kashem, grandfather of Hafsa.
On Wednesday night, her mother, 40-year-old Mehebunnesa, died during treatment died at the same hospital.
On March 3, Mehebunnesa and her two daughters, 18-year-old Farah Islam, a class XI student, and Hafsa Islam, suffered burn injuries in the fire that broke out following an explosion at Shafique Mansion on Shaheed Shahidullah Kaisar Road in the district town.
Sudip Chandra, inspector of Feni police camp, said the explosion had occurred on the fourth floor of the fifth-storey Shafique Mansion, following which the fire broke out.
The three were initially rushed to a local hospital, but Mehebunnesa and Hafsa had to be shifted to the Dhaka hospital after their condition worsened.
Abul Kashem, father-in-law of Mehebunnesa, claimed the fire broke out due a leakage in the cooking gas pipeline.
