A group of armed robbers abducted an expatriate from the Himchari Dhala area on Eidgah-Eidgor road in Cox's Bazar on Saturday.
The abducted expat was identified as Mahbubur Rahman, 30, son of late Zafar Hossain, and hailed from Naikhongchari upazila in Bandarban.
Rahman was going to Eidgah from Baishari to meet his ailing mother-in-law in Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital. Eight to ten armed dacoits attacked their CNG on the way and kidnapped Rahman after stealing the passenger's mobile phone and cash money, said Rashed niece of Rahman who was riding with him.
Md Asaduzzaman, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Eidgah Police Station, said, "We are trying to rescue him."
More than 50 people including expats, business-people and students have been abducted in the past six years.
However, they were freed after extracting ransom from their family.
Meanwhile, law enforcers conducted drives - where some robbers were killed in gunfights - in the area for several times to reduce this type of robbery.
Recently, the robbers have united again for committing such robbery ahead of Eid-ul-Adha.
Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of RRF Police Camp Morshed Alam said police have urged the locals so that they do not ride on vehicles before 8 am on Eidgah-Eidgor-Baishari road to avoid such robbery.
