Earlier, Rony was sentenced to life in prison in January 2019 by Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Judges’ Court
The High Court on Wednesday denied bail to Bakhtiar Alam Rony, son of former Awami League MP Pinu Khan, in the New Eskaton double murder case.
An HC bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice Shahed Nuruddin passed the order after rejecting a bail petition filed by the convicted.
Lawyer Motahar Hossain Saju stood for Rony and Deputy Attorney General ABM Abdullah Al Mahmud Bashar represented the state.
Abdullah-al-Mahmud Bashar confirmed the matter to the Business Standard.
Earlier, Rony was sentenced to life in prison in January 2019 by Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Judges' Court. He was also fined Tk50,000 and given another six months imprisonment for defaulting.
An intoxicated Rony indiscriminately fired gunshots from his car near the Dilu Road area of New Eskaton in Dhaka, on 13 April 2015 injuring a rickshaw-puller named Abdul Hakim and auto-rickshaw driver Yakub.
Hakim succumbed to his injuries at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital on 15 April and Yakub died on 23 April.
Hakim's mother Monowara Begum filed the murder case on 15 April 2015.
Rony was arrested on 30 May 2015.
