Erfan Selim, son of Dhaka-7 lawmaker Haji Mohammad Selim, has been sent to quarantine for 14 days in Dhaka central jail.

He will be kept in one of the cells of the Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj for 14 days according to prison rules for the coronavirus pandemic, Jailer Mahbubur Rahman confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.

On Sunday evening, Erfan reportedly assaulted a navy officer and his wife near the Kalabagan crossing in Dhanmondi area after the official's motorcycle collided with Erfan's car. The military officer filed a case with Dhanmondi Police Station on Monday morning accusing the lawmaker's son and others.

Following the case, RAB launched the drive and arrested Erfan Selim and his bodyguard Md Jahidul Islam.

Erfan and his bodyguard were sentenced to jail for one year for illegally having liquor and possessing walkie-talkies.

Erfan is also set to be sacked from the post of councillor as he was sentenced to jail by a mobile court.
