‘Ensure medical services for freedom fighters, enact their family protection law’
Muktijoddar Santan O Projonmo” – a platform of children of freedom fighters – also demands arrest and punishment of those who vandalised the Father of the Nation’s sculpture
"Muktijoddar Santan O Projonmo" – a platform of children of freedom fighters – has demanded the enactment of a law for the protection of freedom fighters' families and ensuring medical services for the greatest sons of the soil.
The organisation formed a human chain in front of the National Press Club on Friday to press home their demand.
Ohidul Islam Tushar, convener of the platform, said, "Many freedom fighters are living in bad condition and amid huge difficulties. It is very sad to see this, especially when the pro-liberation forces are in power for so long. So, we urge the government to materialise our rational demand as soon as possible."
"Earlier, the health ministry instructed all public hospitals to provide free medical services to freedom fighters. But, the circular has not been implemented.
"When freedom fighters go to hospitals for treatment, they have to be treated like other ordinary patients. That is why we still have to press this demand," he told The Business Standard.
The platform also demanded the arrest and punishment of those who defamed the Father of the Nation by vandalising his sculpture.
Besides, they have asked for suing those who tried to tarnish the spirit of the Liberation War and destroy the country's communal harmony.
Leaders and activists of the organisation from different universities and districts of the country took part in the programme.
