The main instrument of the first unit of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant - Nuclear Reactor Pressure Vessel and a Steam Generator - have reached the Padma river port in the project area in Pabna's Rooppur on Tuesday.

Science and Technology Minister Yeafesh Osman, a 20-member delegation team, led by Foreign Minister Dr A K Abdul Momen, State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam, will visit the project and inspect the equipment today.

Earlier on 20 October, a special ship from Russian port of Petrozabad reached Bangladesh's Mongla port via the Volga River with two instruments crossing 14,000 km of international waterways.

The equipment was brought to Rooppur from Mongla port under tight security of the Bangladesh Navy.

The arrival of the massive equipment -- the Reactor Vessel weighs 333.6 tonnes, while the Steam Generator weighs 340 tonnes -- is a landmark event in the construction of the power plant.

Earlier in August, Russia shipped the main equipment of the Reactor facility for Unit No-1 of Rooppur NPP.

The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Pabna consists of two units with a capacity of 1200 MW each.

The construction cost of the project including manpower training is Tk 1.13 lakh crore and Russia is financing 90 percent of the project money.

According to the agreement, the first unit of the nuclear power plant will be completed in 2022 and the second in 2023 by the Russian contractor Atomstroyexport.

The nuclear power plant will start trial production by loading fuel uranium from next year 2024.
