Announcement on new power prices today
Back in March 1, 2010 the bulk power price was Tk2.5 per kilowatt hour (or a unit)
The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (Berc) is going to announce the increased prices of electricity this afternoon at its Kawran Bazar office.
A source in the commission said that people may have to pay 15-20 percent higher than the previous price.
Bangladesh Power Development Board and other six companies under it proposed to increase the prices for electricity in October last year due to the rise of the gas price as it is the primary fuel for electricity production.
Considering the proposal, Berc held a public hearing according to its law.
After the hearing, taking opinions of all consumers, consumer representatives, energy specialists and sector experts, Berc is about to announce the new price today.
Back in March 1, 2010 the bulk power price was Tk2.5 per kilowatt hour (or a unit). Since then, the price has increased by 90 percent and the current average electricity price is Tk4.77kWh.
