The University Grants Commission (UGC) has suggested to introduce effective initiatives to update the syllabus of current academic programmes in private universities.
The urge was made via an order sent to vice chancellors and registrars of private universities on Monday.
In 2019, instructions were issued to update the approved syllabus every four years from the sign-off date for each programme. This was in accordance with the conditions of programme approval in private universities per the commission's guidelines of standard syllabus.
The UGC said that a modern and up-to-date curriculum, diversification of subjects, unveiling of new horizons in science and technology are elements essential to achieving the desired quality of higher education. It also considered them necessary to ensure a global context and quality higher education.
The UGC has requested that necessary steps be taken to update the current approved programmes.
