The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education has extended the deadline to apply for admission into secondary schools of the country until 7 January.

Consequently, those who could not apply due to age-related complications will now be able to submit their application online. The lottery will be held on 11 January.

Dr Syed Md Golam Faruk, director general of the DSHE, issued directives in this regard on Thursday, saying the decision was taken following a writ petition with the High Court.

According to the previous directives, the admission seeking students were allowed to apply until 27 December and the lottery was supposed to be held on 30 January.

Due to the infavourable situation over the coronavirus pandemic, the secondary schools will not hold any conventional admission test this year, and select students through lottery system.

The applicants faced another complexity this year regarding the age limit. The minimum age for admission into the first grade is now more than six years while it is 11 years for admission into the sixth grade.

This time, a remarkable number of students failed to apply for admission into their desired grades due to age related complications.

Against this backdrop, the HC issued specific directives over the issue, responding to a writ petition.

The latest development came as aftermath of the HC directives.
