Samia Afrin, a 17-year-old Bangladeshi-American girl has received the New York Times Scholarship this year.

She will be pursuing Political Science at the University of Rochester, reports the New York Times.

Grown up in a lower-income Muslim family in Brooklyn, Afrin has always been passionate about fighting injustice.
