JU appoints new pro vice-chancellors, treasurer
Jahangirnagar University has newsly appointed two pro vice-chancellors and a treasurer.
They are being appointed for the next four years on the order of the president, reads a notification issued by the Ministry of Education today (18 September).
The information was disclosed through three separate notifications signed by Shahinur Islam, deputy secretary of Secondary and Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education.
Professor Sohel Ahmed of Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Professor M Mahfuzur Rahman of Botany Department were appointed as pro vice-chancellors and Professor Md Abdur Rab of Mathematics Department as treasurer.
It is said in the notifications that even if their appointment is for four years, the president or chancellor can cancel this appointment at any time. Their salary will be same as present salary.
The pro vice-chancellor shall perform the powers and duties assigned by the vice-chancellor. Also, they have to stay on campus.
Following the downfall of the Awami League government on 5 August, the vice-chancellor of Jahangirnagar University resigned on 7 August and the pro-vice chancellors resigned on 13 and 19 August.
