Students of Dhaka University have finally returned to their classes after a gap of 112 days.
Classes started around 10am today, with students gathering around their classrooms and faculty premises waiting eagerly to take part in the classes.
Meanwhile, in memory of the martyrs of the July uprising, a one-minute silence was also observed, and doves were released as a symbol of peace.
All classes except that of the first year (Honour's) resumed today. The classes of the first year (Honour's) will begin on 30 September.
The university authority discussed with 10 student organisations on 21 September, during which the authority sought help from them to maintain the academic environment.
During the meeting, leaders of the student organisations spoke against the ban on student politics.
They also demanded holding Dhaka University Central Student Union (Ducsu) and other hall union elections in a timely manner.
Earlier, on 17 July, Dhaka University along with other universities in the country decided to halt all classes until further notice and asked students to vacate the residential halls fearing for their security during the quota reform protests.
Prior to that, teachers at public universities nationwide suspended all academic and administrative activities indefinitely starting on 1 July demanding the withdrawal of the "Prottoy" universal pension scheme.
