Buet to take admission test as per own law
The university took the decision at a meeting on Wednesday night
Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) will not take part in the uniform admission test arranged by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The Shikkha Parishad of the university took the decision at a meeting on Wednesday night.
Professor Mizanur Rahaman, member of the parished and Director of Students' Welfare, told The Business Standard that Buet will conduct its admission test as per own system.
"Buet is an autonomous higher educational institution. It has own system to enroll the students. That is why the teachers of the university have not agreed to join the uniform admission test," he said.
Earlier on February 13, UGC decided to hold a uniform admission test for all public universities from the next academic year of 2020-2021 to reduce sufferings of students and their guardians.
As per the decision, the test will be simultaneously held at all universities on a same day instead of the existing system under which students need to go to different universities across the country for the entrance examinations.
But four universities — Dhaka University, Chittagong University, Jahangirnagar University and Buet did not confirm their participation in the process.
Buet already took their decision. Dhaka University will hold its academic council meeting on Monday regarding the matter.
