3 DU teachers punished for academic misconduct
The convicted teachers are Samia Rahman from Mass Communication and Journalism department, Sayed Mahfuzul Haque Marzan from Criminology department and Omar Faruque from Islamic History and Culture department
The syndicate of Dhaka University has taken disciplinary actions against three teachers for resorting to plagiarism in academic papers and PhD thesis.
The decision was taken on Thursday at the regular syndicate meeting of the university based on recommendations from the tribunal, DU Vice-Chancellor Md Akhtaruzzaman told The Business Standard.
The convicted teachers are Samia Rahman from Mass Communication and Journalism department, Sayed Mahfuzul Haque Marzan from Criminology department and Omar Faruque from Islamic History and Culture department.
Among them, Samia Rahman has been made assistant professor through a demotion from the associate professor post. Mahfuzul Haque, who is currently on study leave, has to serve as a lecturer for two more years once the leave is over.
The university syndicate has demoted Omar Farooq from assistant professor to lecturer and cancelled his degree due to forgery in his PhD thesis.
