Drug dealer killed ‘by drowning’ after gunfight

A suspected drug dealer was killed ‘by drowning in the river while trying to flee’ after a reported gunfight with police in Rajshahi on early Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Md Amin, of Harpur village under Kashiadanga Police Station in the district.
Police claimed that the doctors did not find any gunshot mark in his body.
“Being informed, police conducted an anti-narcotics drive at Dam-5 of the Padma River around 3:15 am,” said Golam Ruhul Kuddus, additional deputy commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police.
“Sensing police presence, drug peddlers started to fire on them. The law enforcement officials retaliated by firing back,” he said.
Police, later, recovered Amin’s body from Padma river, said Ruhul Kuddus adding that Amin might have drowned while trying to flee.
Police also recovered a shotgun, two bullets and 79 bottles of Phensedyl from the spot.
Police said that there were several narcotics cases against Amin with different police stations.
