The government has appointed Professor Dr Rafiqul Islam as president of Bangla Academy.
The announcement of his appointment was confirmed via a government notice issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Tuesday.
According to the government notice, Dr Rafiqul will serve as president of the institution for 3 years under Section-6 (1) of the Bangla Academy Act 2013.

Born in January 1, 1934, Dr Rafiqul Islam is an Independence Award and Ekushey Padak winning writer, academician, researcher, cultural activist and former National Professor.
Eminent educationist Rafiqul Islam is currently a Professor Emeritus at ULAB and serving as chairman of the Nazrul Institute.
