A pack of dogs entered the Shaheed AHM Qamaruzzaman Central Park and Zoo in Rajshahi and killed a deer along with three fawns.
Zoo Veterinary Surgeon Dr Farhad Uddin initially denied the matter, but later said on Friday four dogs entered the zoo by digging a hole near the deer's shed and killed them.
The authorities buried the remains of the killed deer in a hurry and got rid of the dogs as well.
Authorities believe that since restaurants have been closed due to the novel coronavirus, the dogs could not find any leftovers to eat and killed the deer out of sheer hunger.
Sources at the zoo said the deer were brutally killed due to the irresponsible behaviour and negligence of duties of the employees.
Last month 15 fawns were born at the zoo and before the attack of the stray dogs the total number of deer was 75, which has now came down to 71.
