Dog lovers should take full responsibility of strays: DSCC mayor

“Take those dogs to your homes, give them proper food and take responsibility for them; that way people of the city will be relieved and the dogs will be safe too.”-- Taposh

The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayor has called on dog-lovers to take full responsibility of stray dogs as a reply to the ongoing issue of removing stray dogs from city streets.

Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh made the comment on Tuesday afternoon during a discussion with some organisations including Obhoyaronno about removing stray dogs from the city at the Buriganga Hall of Nagar Bhaban (Town Hall).

The mayor said, "Your organisations can raise awareness about giving shelter and taking full responsibility by taking those dogs as pets instead of giving them a few biscuits and showing off your love."

He further said, "Take those dogs to your homes, give them proper food and take responsibility for them; that way people of the city will be relieved and the dogs will be safe too."

After various related national and foreign research and observations were presented at the meeting, the Mayor said "Your point is someone or some people of different areas are feeding the dogs and taking care of them; if you identify those dogs, we will not relocate them."

"One sitting may not solve the problem. We will arrange further meetings if needed" he added.

If you submit a proper suggestion in writing about how the authority can deal with the matter, we will try to add them on logical terms, the mayor proposed.

Our main goal is to make Dhaka a developed city; and nowhere are stray dogs found at open public places in any developed countries. We want to take Dhaka to that standard. Let's work towards that together, Mayor Taposh said.
