Doctor couple sustain burns from hand sanitiser
Dr Rajib was put on life support while his wife was receiving treatment in the high-dependency unit
A physician couple sustained burn injuries from hand sanitiser at their home in the capital's Hatirpool early on Wednesday.
Dr Rajib Bhattacharya, 36, and his wife Dr Anusua Bhattacharya, 32, were admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery around 4am.
The institute's Chief Coordinator Dr Samanta Lal Sen told The Business Standard Dr Rajib sustained 88 percent burns, and his wife had 18 percent.
Dr Rajib was put on life support in the intensive care unit, and his condition is critical.
His wife was receiving treatment in the high-dependency unit.
Dr Samanta said hand sanitiser, which many people are now using to protect themselves against coronavirus, must be kept away from fire because it contains alcohol.
Dr Rajib is a final-year student of the neurosurgery department at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University. His wife works at a private hospital.
