One killed, 10 hurt in Narayanganj Awami League infighting

One person was killed and 10 others were injured in a clash between two groups of Awami League supporters in Narayanganj over establishing dominance.

The Officer in charge (OC) of Araihazar upazila police station Nazrul Islam confirmed the matter and said that the clash happened at the Izarakandi area of the union on Wednesday afternoon.

Nazrul said that the deceased Ayub Nabi, 16, is the son of Jalal Uddin, a resident of the Izarkandi area.

OC Nazrul Islam said, "A gunshot wound has been found on Ayub Nabi's head and we have sent his body to the Narayanganj General Hospital for an autopsy."

The police and by-standers said that there had been a dispute between the President of Kalapaharia union Chhatra League Saddam Hossain's group and former union parishad member of 5 no ward Abdul Haque's group of followers over dominance in the area.

On Wednesday afternoon, Rasel, a follower of the group led by union Chhatra League president Saddam Hossain, and his associates set up a place for gambling in the Izarkandi area.

Ayub Nabi, an 8th-grade student and a follower of the group led by UP member Abdul Haque, stopped Rasel and his followers from doing so.

This resulted in tensions between them.

Later the two groups backed each of their followers and later got entangled in a clash with firearms and locally made weapons.

Gunshots were fired repeatedly during the clash, which killed Ayub Nabi and injured 10 others.

Later, police officials of the Araihazar police station rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Police officials have been dispatched in the area to avoid any further clashes. The police are working to identify the culprits and bring them to justice.
