Daily infection rate stands at 5% for 2nd straight day
22 more died from Covid-19 in last 24 hours

Bangladesh has reported a daily infection rateof 5.36% for the second consecutive day on Saturday when 692 people tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
On Friday, the daily infection rate was 5.74%.Earlier on 8 April last year, Covid-19 daily infection rate was 5.50%.
After more than eight months, the country'sdaily infection rate now stands at 5% fortwo straight days.
In the last 24 hours ending at 8 am on Saturday, 22 more people have died from the novel coronavirus.
Professor Nazrul Islam, noted virologist and former vice-chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, told the Business Standard, if the infection rate stands at 5% for three consecutive weeks, this viruswould become endemic in our country.
Bangladesh has passed 308 days of the Covid-19 outbreak with 511,382 confirmed cases and 7,756 deaths so far, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.
The country's first Covid-19 cases were reported on 8 March last year, while the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
785 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the same period, raising the total number of recoveries to 466,064 with a recovery rate of 89.39%.
Among the latest day's victims, 15 were men and 7 were women. Of the 22 deaths, 21died in different hospitals across the country, while one had died at home.
Moreover, 17 of the 22 hailed from Dhaka division, two each from Chattogram and Rajshahi and one from Mymensingh division.
Meanwhile, 12,908 samples were tested in 181 labs across the country in the past 24 hours. A total of 3,344,399 samples have been tested in the country so far.
