A university student was hacked to death in the Tinkona Pukurpar area of Mymensingh city early on Friday.

The victim was identified as Tauhidul Islam Khan, 24, a student of the Department of Finance and Banking at the Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University. He was from Rameswarpur village under Atpara upazila in Netrokona district.

Additional superintendent of police (Sadar circle) in Mymensingh, Md Al-Amin, said the killers entered a mess in the area and stabbed Tauhidul. The owner of the mess realised what was going on and rescued him in a critically wounded condition.

He rushed him to the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where doctors on duty declared him dead. The body was sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy.

The additional police superintendent said the police is investigating whether the murder was premeditated or if some thief stabbed him when he went to rob the place. Police are also trying to identify and detain the killers.
