Three people arrested for stealing government rice in Sreemangal

Three people have been arrested for thieving government rice in Sreemangal upazila of Moulvibazar district. Two of them were sent to jail.

Sub Inspector of Sreemangal Police Station Md Alamgir Hossain said three people were arrested for stealing government rice based on secret information. A case has been filed against all three of them.

The investigation officer of the case revealed two of the arrestees' names. They are Ashik Mia and Islam Mia. He did not reveal another name in the interest of the case.

Ashik Mia was arrested on Tuesday, he is known as a loan creditor in his union.

Islam Mia was brought to the police station for an interrogation on Wednesday and later arrested.

Based on the information given by Islam Mia, several operations were conducted and unknown amounts of rice were recovered.

Kalapur union parishad chairman Mujibur Rahman Majul said, "I do not know anything about government rice theft." 

When The Business Standard correspondent asked him if there was any possibility of involvement of the union parishad or the dealer in rice stealing, Majul threatened to file a case against him.

Officer-in-Charge of Sreemangal Police Station, Md Abdus Salek said, "We are trying to arrest the main culprit behind rice theft."
