Suspected female drug peddler killed in ‘gunfight’

A suspected female drug peddler was killed in a gunfight between two groups of drug dealers at Kharangkhali area in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar early Sunday.
The deceased was Somuda Begum, 40, hailed from Satghoriapara of the upazila.
Officer-in-charge of Teknaf Model Police Station Prodi Kumar Das said, "A team of police was patrolling the area like any other day. Suddenly the police heard the sound of gunfire and went to the spot at around 1.00am. They saw a bullet-hit woman lying there. She was rushed to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex. The duty doctor declared her death there."
The OC also said, "We assume the killing was a result of internal conflict between drug peddlers. A case will be lodged in this regard."
Police seized 10,000 yaba pills from her possession, he added.
An emrgency doctor of the health complex, Pronoy Rudra said, "There were multiple bullet marks on her body. She died before being brought to the hospital. The Body was taken to Cox's Bazar Sadar hospital morgue for autopsy."
Police sources said the victim was the accused in two cases under the Narcotics Control Act.
