A local Secchasebok League leader was hacked to death by rivals in Hatia's Sonadia union of Noakhali district on Friday morning over distribution of relief among fishermen.

Six people were also injured in the attack incident.

The deceased was identified as Jobayer Hossain, 43, son of Abu Taher and vice-president of union Secchasebok League.

The incident took place around 11am at Charchenga Bazar.

According to local sources, UP chairman Nur Islam Malasia was distributing relief among fishermen at Charchenga Bazar in the morning. Locals complained of irregularities in the distribution of rice around 11:30 am.

Centering this, some people including Jobayer got into an argument with the chairman's people.

As a result of this incident, the people of Nur Islam carried out an attack in the bazar and hacked and injured several people including Jobayer Hossain, leaving him dead on the spot.

The attackers also opened several round of bullets.

However, Nur Islam was not available over phone while attempts were made to talk to him over the murder incident.

Hatia Police Station Officer-in-charge Abul Khair said Jobayer was killed in the attack made by his rival.

A case will be filed in the incident.

Police are conducting drives to arrest the attackers.
