A student of the Institute of Education and Research (IER) of Rajshahi University (RU) has accused an assistant professor of the same institute of sexually harassing her.

“I was subjected to physical and mental harassments by my teacher Bishnu Kumar Adhikary, which has traumatised me,” the student wrote in a complaint submitted to the RU authorities on Tuesday.

“He [the teacher] would often call me to his office without any academic reason and kept me waiting. He used to talk in illusive manner, making indecent comments. Moreover, the teacher would frequently call me on cell phone late at night.

“It is difficult for me to concentrate on anything due to my mental state,” the complaint reads.

“I do not want any student to experience what I had to go through,” she wrote.

“I filed the complaint as I could not take it anymore,” said the student, demanding stern action against the teacher.

Accused Bishnu Kumar Adhikary, however, denied the allegations, saying he knew “nothing” about it.

Confirming about the written complaint, RU IER Director Abul Hasan Chowdhury said that they were verifying the allegations.

Copies of the letter were sent to the university VC, pro-VC, registrar, proctor and students’ adviser.

Similar allegations were brought against Bishnu by a number of students of the university’s evening course previously. They demanded removal of the teacher from the course.

The university authorities later relieved him of academic activities of the batch.
