Probe report deadline in Gulshan sabotage case reset for July 18
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and 13 others accused of instigating attack on procession led by Shajahan Khan
A Dhaka court on Thursday reset July 18 for submission of the probe report in a sabotage case against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and 13 others.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Devdas Chandra Adhikari passed the order after the investigation officer of Gulshan police station failed to submit the report to the court on the day.
“The investigation report on the case was supposed to be submitted today [Thursday]. However, the investigation officer failed to submit it, so the court set a new date,” said Md Rakibul Hasan, general recording officer of the chief metropolitan magistrate court, confirming the matter.
According to the case statement, leaders and activists of the Muktijoddha Parishad gathered on February 16, 2015 in Gulshan area of Dhaka for a demonstration in protest against the ongoing blockade and hartal enforced by the BNP-led combine.
Demonstrators, led by the then shipping minister Shahjahan Khan, were planning to lay siege to the BNP chairperson’s office in the same area when Khaleda was inside her office.
At one point, criminals threw several cocktails at the procession after it had reached Gulshan-2 intersection.
Ismail Hossain Bachchu, general secretary of Dhaka District Transport Workers' Union, on February 17 filed a case with Gulshan police station, accusing Khaleda and 13 others of instigating the attack.
The other accused include BNP vice-chairmen Selima Rahman and Maj (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, BNP chairperson’s adviser Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, BNP Joint Secretary General Salauddin Ahmed, Mohila Dal General Secretary Shirin Sultana, Khaleda’s special assistant Shimul Biswas and her Press Secretary Maruf Kamal Khan Sohel.
