Miscreants snatched Tk50 lakh from a postmaster after shooting him in his leg at Bolla area of Kalihati upazila in Tangail on Sunday noon.

Mujibur Rahman, postmaster of Bolla post office, collected Tk50 lakh from the Kalihati post office and was returning to Bolla on his motorcycle accompanied by Bolla post office runner Rafiqul Islam.

The money belonged to customers of the Bolla post office.

Kalihati Police Station Officer-in-Charge Hasan Al Mamun said, "Around 2pm when Mujibur reached near Bolla Gorosthanpara Handloom Board area, another motorcycle carrying three people stopped them."

"They shot Mujibur in his leg and snatched the bag containing Tk50 lakh," added Hasan.

People from the nearby areas rescued the postmaster and took him to Kalihati Upazila Health Complex for primary treatment. Later, he was taken to Tangail General Hospital.

The hospital's resident doctor Shafiqul Islam said, "Mujibur leg got fractured due to bullet injury. He has been advised to go to Dhaka for further treatment."

Tangail Superintendent of Police Sonjit Kumar Roy said several teams of police had been dispatched to catch the miscreants after the incident.
