It seems no one is safe from muggers in the city. The latest victim of the crime is none other than the country's planning minister MA Mannan.

It was around 6:50pm on Sunday when the minister was on his way home from his office in the city's Agargaon area.

When his official vehicle reached the Bijoy Sarani signal, the minister was using his phone with the vehicle's window rolled down.

All of a sudden a mugger snatched the minister's phone – an iPhone X – and ran away within seconds.

Humayun Kabir, personal assistant of the minister, said the minister's gunman immediately got out of the vehicle and chased the mugger but the culprit had managed to escape the scene.

During a press briefing after the Ecnec meeting on Tuesday, the planning minister acknowledged the incident.

That night Humayun Kabir filed a case with the Kafrul Police Station under penal code 379.

Although a case was filed with the Kafrul police station, the phone is yet to be recovered.

Selimuzzaman, officer-in-charge of Kafrul Police Station, told The Business Standard (TBS), "We are trying our best to track down the mugger."

Another police official told TBS that the spot is under jurisdiction of Kafrul Police Station and the path the mugger escaped is under Tejgaon police station.

So, the Kafrul and Tejgaon police stations are jointly trying to recover the phone and nab the mugger, he added.
