Pabna gang rape: Police collect evidence from crime scene
“Police arrested one of the rapists named Russel Ahmed after a case was filed in this connection on Monday night,” said Pabna SP
Police have collected evidence of the gang rape of a housewife in Pabna, who was allegedly forced to marry one of the rapists at police station premises.
Pabna Superintendent of Police (SP) Sheikh Rafiqul Islam confirmed the matter to journalists at his office this afternoon.
"Police arrested one of the rapists named Russel Ahmed after a case was filed in this connection on Monday night," he said.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pabna Sadar Police Station Obaidul Hauque was also served a show-cause notice for his alleged involvement in the incident, Rafiqul Islam added.
Earlier on August 29, one Russel Ahmed along with his four accomplices, all from Pabna Sadar upazila, allegedly abducted the victim hailing from the same upazila on August 29, and gang-raped her for four days.
After escaping the scene, the woman shared the incident with her relatives and was admitted to Pabna General Hospital on September 5.
Next, the victim submitted a written allegation to Pabna Sadar Police Station. Police detained Russel but did not file any case at that time.
To tone down the seriousness of the crime, police forced the woman to divorce her husband and marry Russel at 10pm on Friday night.
