One arrested over spreading illicit photos of a girl on Facebook

Police arrested the accused on Saturday for allegedly posting illicit photos of a girl on Facebook who committed suicide over the incident in Satkhira.

The arrestee is Mrittunjoy Roy, hailed from Kolagachi village in Tala upazila of the district.

Mehedi Rasel, officer-in-charge (OC) of Tala Police Station, said, "Mrittunjoy was arrested at around 10 am from Khesra area of the upazila."

"The 16-year-old girl, Beauty Mondol, committed suicide on September 9, by hanging herself with a rope, after her illicit photos spread on the Facebook," said the OC.

"After the incident, the victim's uncle Dipankar Mondol filed a case against Mrittunjoy Roy," he added.

On the day of the incident, Beauty's uncle Dipankar said, "Mrittunjoy was proposing my niece for a long time. He threatened to post vulgar fake photos of her on Facebook, as Beauty refused his proposal."
