One arrested in Narayanganj for posing as law enforcement agency official
Police officials said that preparations are underway to file a case in this regard
The Detective Branch of Narayanganj Police arrested a man named Shariful Islam Sharif on charges of fraud on Wednesday. He had allegedly posed as a law enforcement official.
Police conducted a drive at Shariful's house and recovered four false identity cards under different names – including a seal bearing the name of Brigadier General Saiful Islam.
SM Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Narayanganj district's detective police said, Shariful Islam called Narayanganj district police's Superintendant Jayedul Alam, saying he was Brigadier General Saiful Islam, husband of Sinha garments owner of Kachpur, Sonargaon.
He filed a complaint with Jayedul against a man named Rasel Bhuiyan for harassing his wife.
A few minutes later, he called from another number, changed the tone of his voice and introduced himself as Major Kamrul. He then requested Jayedul Alam prioritise the complaint made by Brigadier General Saiful Islam, SM Alamgir Hossain added.
"Police then went to Demra to investigate the matter. Suddenly Shariful came to the police, running, and introduced himself as Brigadier General Saiful Islam. Police thought he was suspicious as they spoke and began interrogating him," SM Alamgir Hossain said.
"At one point, Shariful confessed that he called under fake identities to the police to file complaints against Rasel Bhuiyan over previous hostilities with him," SM Alamgir Hossain further said.
Police officials said that preparations are underway to file a case in this regard.
