Noakhali rape victim’s statement recorded, 2 accused on 6-day remand
"My only demand is that the culprits be given capital punishment. In such situation, others would have committed suicide. But I refrained from doing so," she said while disclosing the horrendous experience she went through
A Noakhali court on Monday recorded the statement of the woman who was tortured and sexually harassed by some local miscreants which led to a nationwide outrage after the footage of the incident went viral on social media.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Nabanita Guha of Noakhali Chief Judicial Magistrate Court recorded the statement under Section 22. The court also directed the authorities concerned to send the victim to Noakhali General Hospital for a medical test.
Meanwhile, another court placed two accused, Md Rahim and Rahmat Ullah, on a six-day remand in two separate cases.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Mashfiqul Haque passed the order after the accused were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Begumganj of the district in the evening.
Shahjahan Sheikh, additional superintendent of Begumganj circle police in Noakhali, confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.
The victim, mother of two, said in her statement that she had been staying at her father's home in Joykrishnapur village for several months after a dispute with her husband.
She said her daughter had got married a month before the incident took place in September.
She contacted her husband as her daughter requested her to settle the dispute with him. Later, the husband visited her house on September 2.
On that night after 9pm, the accused entered the house and beat up the husband. They took him to the adjacent room and tied him up.
They then tortured the victim and assaulted her after stripping her naked. Two of them filmed the incident on their mobile phones.
Meanwhile, the victim demanded capital punishment for the culprits while giving her statement before the court.
"My only demand is that the culprits be given capital punishment. In such situation, others would have committed suicide. But I refrained from doing so," she said while disclosing the horrendous experience she went through.
"Death would have been better than what happened to me," she bemoaned.
The woman also alleged that the local authority paid no heed when she approached them with a complaint.
Regarding ongoing the protest across the country, she said if it helps any other woman or girl facing the same situation, that alone is enough.
