A Khulna court on Monday sentenced a man, who was allegedly tortured in police custody, to two years' jail in a case filed over snatching money.
The convict was identified as Shahjalal.
Police arrested Shahjalal from Khalishpur area in Khulna on July 18, 2017.
Shahjalal's family members claimed that police gouged out his eyes while Shahjalal was in police custody. He was admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital on July 19, 2017.
On September 7, 2017, Shahjalal's mother filed a case against 13 police officials including the then acting officer-in-charge of Khalishpur Police Station Nasim Khan for torturing her son.
Shahjalal's family members alleged that the police officials tried to negotiate with them and persuaded them to withdraw the case.
After examining documents, Justice Amirul Islam of Khulan Metropolitan Magistrate Court-1 pronounced the verdict.
