Court rejects remand plea, sends Rozina Islam to jail

A Dhaka court has rejected a police plea to take Prothom Alo's Senior Reporter Rozina Islam, known for her strong reporting on official corruption, on 5-day remand in a case filed under Official Secrets Act
Rozina Islam made several investigative reports recently revealing corruptions in the health sector.
Judge of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court today sent Rozina Islam to jail today.
The court also fixed Thursday for hearing on her bail plea.
She will be sent to Centrail Jail Medical Centre in Keraniganj, said her lawyer Proshanto Karmoker.
Earlier in the day, Rozina Islam was taken to the court from police station around 8am, said his husband Monirul Islam.
Rozina Islam was detained for allegedly taking snapshots of an official document at the Secretariat without due permission.

The incident took place on Monday afternoon when Rozina went to the health ministry inside the Secretariat as part of professional duty around 3:30pm. At one stage, she was locked in a room there and her mobile phone was confiscated.
Hours after detention, the case has been filed against her under the Official Secrets Act.
Health Services Division's (HSD) Deputy Secretary Sibbir Ahmed Osmani filed the case with Shahbagh police station on Monday midnight, said Harunur Rashid, additional deputy commissioner (Ramna Division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
Two more charges were brought against the senior journalist under 379 and 411 sections of the penal code.
Meanwhile, her husband Monirul Islam Tuesday said they will file a case against those officials who assaulted and tortured Rozina Islam inside the room of the Secretariat.
