An Italy-returnee expatriate was hacked to death by rival in Noupara Bus Stand area in Bhanga municipality on Tuesday night over political clash.
The deceased was identified as Masud Miah, 40, son of Harun-or-Rashid. He used to live in Italy with his family and came to Bangladesh for Bhanga municipal election.
Syed Lutfor Rahman, officer-in-charge of Bhanga Police Station confirmed the matter.
According to locals, there had been long standing dispute between upazila Awami League organizing secretary Rajjak Fakir and Bacchu member of the area over establishing supremacy.
Witnesses said supporters of his rival group attacked Masud around 9pm while he was taking tea sitting in a tea shop near bus stand and hacked him indiscriminately, leaving critically injured.
Later, he was rushed to hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.
Rajjak Fakir claimed that that Bacchu member's supporter attacked Masud and killed him.
