The Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital authorities have handed over the dead bodies of six children, who died in a cylinder explosion at Rupnagar area in the capital, to their families after autopsy.

The deceased are Riya Moni, 8, Nupur, 11, Farzana, 7, Rifat, 8, Ramjan, 11, and Rubel, 11.

Dr K M Mainuddin, a lecturer of Forensic Medicine at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital said all six of them got physically hurt in the explosion.

Limbs of some of the children were severed from their bodies, he said, adding some other died because their intestines came out due to the explosion.

The Dhaka District Administration gave each of the families of the deceased Tk20,000 as financial aid.

The families got the aid when the dead bodies were handed over to them on Thursday afternoon, Executive Magistrate of Dhaka District Administration Md Mazharul Islam said.

"We will also provide the injured with Tk5,000 to Tk15,000, depending on their condition, for their treatment" Mazharul Islam added.

Earlier on Wednesday, the six children were killed on the spot and 15 others injured in a balloon gas cylinder blast at Mirpur's Rupnagar area.

The injured were taken to the Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital after the accident. Among them, one child named Nihad, 8, succumbed to his injuries at the intensive care unit in the early hours of Thursday.

With Nihad, the death toll in the blast reached seven.
