An extortion case has been filed against 25 people including the councilor of ward-2 of Gazipur City Corporation, ward Awami League president and general secretary.

Md Imtiaz, manager of KEC Factory, filed case for demanding Tk5 lakh from the factory, on Thursday at Kashimpur Police Station, confirmed Deputy-Commissioner of Gazipur Metropolitan Police Jakir Hasan.

Among the accused are councillor Montaz Uddin Mandal, ward Awami League President Abdul Halim, General Secretary Md Shahidullah, Awami League leader Abdul Gani and Abul Kashem.

"We have arrested Asim Uddin, an accused of this case and trying to arrest others," said Jakir Hasan.

According to the case detail, the accused demanded Tk5 lakh before this Eid from the factory's Managing Director Faruk Ahmed under the leadership of the councillor.

The accused beat up officers and workers of the factory upon not getting the money. They also threatened to harm the factory.

The workers and officers of the factory blocked Dhaka-EPZ road protesting this incident on May 3-4.

Councillor Montaj Uddin Mandal declined the accusation and said that the case has been filed to socially harass him.
