Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained a couple from Dhaka with 500 gram heroin worth Tk50 lakh today.
The detainees are Habibur Rahman Babu, 29 and his wife Dilruba Dipa, 27, hailing from Chakpara of Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila.
Sujoy Sarker, assistant director, Legal and Media wing of RAB, confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.
"Acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB-2 led by Police Superintendent Md Mohiuddin Faruki conducted a raid at Elephant Road in the capital at around 9:30am and detained the duo," said Sujoy.
The heroin was hidden inside a mango basket and a pressure cooker.
The couple lives in a rented house in Munshiganj. According to local people, Habibur and Dilruba used to tell people that they do business of saree and lungi.
Actually, they have been involved in this illegal work for a long time. In the name of sending baby food, seasonal fruits, daily essentials and other items through courier services, they were doing it, according to RAB.
The couple received three to four such deliveries worth TK50 lakh to TK2 crore through courier services per month.
The filing of a case with New Market Police Station in the capital against the accused under Narcotics Control Act is under process.
