A man who sustained bullet injury after being shot by Kishore Kumar Mandal – a gunman of Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque – died early Friday.

The victim, Md Mohin Uddin, 32, had been undergoing treatment for seven days at a Savar hospital.

Mohin is the second victim of the gunman. The first was Shahidul Islam, 35, who died on the spot when the shooting occurred on the night of April 16 in Gazipur's Kaliakoir upazila.

Moin Uddin hailed from Kutubdia village of Kaliakair upazila and Shahidul is the son of Sabur Uddin from Mirzapur upazila in Tangail.

Inspector of Kaliakoir police station (investigation) Sanwar Hossain said Kishore Kumar, who is an assistant sub-inspector of police, hailed from Kutubdia village of the upazila.

"On April 16, Kishore was chatting with the duo at around 9:45pm at Kutubdia village. At one point, they began arguing and Kishore opened fire on them with his pistol," Sanwar said.

"Shahid died on the spot while Mohin sustained injuries. Kishore fled the scene of the incident," he added.

Local people rescued and sent injured Mohin to Kaliakoir Upazila Health Complex. Then, he was taken to Enam Medical College and Hospital in Savar where, today, he died.

Sanwar said Kishore and the other two friends were drug addicts and used to chat in the area.

On April 17, Shahidul's wife filed a case against Kishore with Kaliakoir Police Station.

Police arrested him the next day along with a pistol and six rounds of bullets from an area adjacent to Ashulia police station in Dhaka.

Md Moniruzzaman Khan, investigation officer of the case and inspector at Kaliakoir police station said, a remand of seven days was pleaded before court but appeal was not granted as the court remained closed because of the Covid-19 shutdown. Kishore was sent to jail following the court's order.

Earlier, the minister AKM Mozammel Haque vilified the murder, saying, "It is the gunman's personal responsibility."

"The killing cannot be justified by any means," said the minister, asking law enforcement agencies to take action against the gunman.
